History of the Raspberry Martini

The Martini is one of the most multifaceted cocktails ever created. On the purist side, there are legions of drinkers with very specific gin or vodka orders and varying amounts of vermouth. In the middle, you’ve got drinkers who enjoy the classics but aren’t afraid to venture into fruity territory. On the far end of the spectrum, some drinkers will shake or blitz anything and pour it into a Martini glass. At The Mixer, there’s room for everyone at the bar. If it wasn’t for experimentation, we wouldn’t be enjoying this gorgeous Raspberry Martini recipe. So, let’s all raise our glasses and toast the world of Martini cocktails!

Variations

The Raspberry Martini is an easy cocktail to experiment with and find something that suits your taste. We recommend trying gin instead of vodka for a more complex and botanical cocktail. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, try adding chocolate liqueur with a touch of cream to create a chocolate raspberry Martini. Or, if you feel like diving even deeper into the world of Martinis, check out our Dirty Martini, Key Lime Martini, Cucumber Martini, Lemon Drop Martini, Apple Martini, and the ever-popular Pornstar Martini.

When to serve

The Raspberry Martini is a great after-work or sundowner cocktail. It’s simple yet elegant and your guests will always think you’ve gone the extra mile. So, if you’ve got a romantic dinner or picnic planned this Valentine’s Day, shake up some Raspberry Martinis and treat that special someone to something special.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We recommend raspberry vodka for this recipe to maximise the raspberry flavour, but regular vodka will work too. You can even try a citrus vodka for added flavour and complexity.

This recipe calls for regular sugar syrup because we’re muddling fresh raspberries, but homemade raspberry syrup will also work. To make a raspberry sugar syrup, just add ½ C fresh raspberries to your sugar syrup recipe. Simmer until the berries are soft, then strain the mixture through a fine sieve.
