History of the Cranberry Mimosa

The Cranberry juice Mimosa is a variation of the classic Mimosa, a famous brunch cocktail consisting of orange juice topped with Champagne. The tradition of mixing OJ and sparkling wine originated in Spain, where both oranges and wine are plentiful. As for the modern Mimosa, many believe it was invented around 1925 at the Ritz Hôtel in Paris by the bartender Frank Meier. Others believe that Alfred Hitchcock created it in San Francisco in the 1940s when looking for a ‘hair of the dog’ drink after a raucous night out with a friend. Whichever version you prefer, the Mimosa will forever be a classic morning sipper loved around the world.

Variations

The Cranberry Mimosa is so easy and versatile that it sparked many delicious variations, all to try at your next get-together with the girls (or the boys!).

Christmas Mimosa

The Christmas Mimosa is made with pineapple, orange, and cranberry juice and topped with Champagne. It is a refreshing and fruity kickstart to your festive celebrations, but if you want a drink that’s a little more potent, replace the cranberry juice with cranberry liqueur. Garnish with diced apples and pomegranate seeds for the ultimate festive season cocktail.

Poinsettia

Let this cocktail be the centerpiece of your table. The name ‘Poinsettia’ comes from the bright red flowers many people use to decorate their homes during the festive season. Made with cranberry juice, orange liqueur, and Champagne, this colorful cocktail will instantly elevate the holiday spirit.

Cranberry Orange Mimosa

Looking for a stylish and easy cocktail to serve while opening presents, stirring pots, and chasing the kids around the house? Then the Cranberry Orange Mimosa is the perfect fix. Made with fresh orange juice and Champagne (or Prosecco), it’s the addition of a cranberry-infused simple syrup that gives it some extra pizzazz.

Champagne and Chambord

This fantastic cocktail only requires two ingredients, Champagne and raspberry liqueur, and has that same festive ruby red color as Cranberry Mimosa. The recipe calls for half a shot of liqueur topped off by your favorite Champagne or sparkling wine. Super simple, sophisticated, and very drinkable.

Spiced Cranberry Hot Toddy

The festive season wouldn’t be complete without some warm Cranberry cocktails. The Spiced Cranberry Hot Toddy is the ultimate combo to warm everyone up on a cold winter’s day. Make this Toddy by filling a mug with boiling water and adding bourbon, cranberry juice, and lemon juice. Then customize your Cranberry Hot Toddy by adding your favorite baking spices and seasonal fruits to enhance the flavor and make it your own.

When to serve

The Cranberry Mimosa, like all juice-based Mimosas, is refreshing and low in ABV, which makes it one of the best brunch and breakfast cocktails. But that’s not all! Mimosas instantly liven up any celebration, so serve them at Thanksgiving, baby showers, Christmas and more.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You can easily make Cranberry Mimosas to please a crowd. One bottle of Champagne will give you around 6 servings. To make a Mimosa pitcher, add some fresh slices of citrus fruit to the pitcher, pour in a bottle of chilled Champagne, and then slowly top it off with fresh orange juice. When serving, fill each flute with the prepared mix and add a splash of cranberry juice to each glass.

Of course! You can turn the Cranberry Mimosa into a lovely mocktail by replacing sparkling wine with ginger ale or lime soda.
